Review by Relic:
Granted, the Chili Peppers have had their ups and downs, but if you've heard any of the songs off of their newer album, Californication, you'll know without a doubt that the masters of funk are back on the up. Californication highlights what the Chili Peppers do best; pure funk nonsense. The album switches moods through the various songs on the album, such as the unusual yet cool feel of Parallel Universe to the nonsencial fast lyrics of I Like Dirt. While it would be a very difficult job to attempt to choose a better of the Chili Peppers unquestionable best two albums: Californication and Blood Sugar Sex Majik, I think when pressed I would have to choose the Chili Peppers' classic album over their new stuff. Don't get me wrong, the new stuff is badass, but Blood Sugar Sex Majik was the foundation for the Chili Peppers popularity and influence on the alternative music scene. Containing classics like Give it Away, Under the Bridge, Suck My Kiss, and more, Blood Sugar Sex Majik is a must have. Containing soon-to-be classics like Around the World, Californication, Scar Tissue, and more, Californication is a must have. The Chili Peppers' other albums, Mother's Milk and Uplift Mofo Party are generally a lost time for the Chili Peppers, but those too have their highlights. If you're an alternative fan, buy Californication and Blood Sugar Sex Majik - it's worth it. If you're a Chili Peppers' fan, buy them all if you wish, but be prepared to soon realize you're only listening to two of the cds.
