The Get Up Kids
Review by Alan Schwartz:
The Get Up Kids have a sound that after many hours of listening, it doesn't get old. On contrary to the Pixies review, this band actually can sing. They have the same guitar and bass sound as the Pixies but the thing that makes this band so cool is that they have a xylophone in their band. How often do you get that? Their songs are non-repetative which is annoying at first. It is odd how you get used to a chorus getting repeated, but it doesn't happen here. On this specific cd, Red Letter Day, all of their songs are enjoyable. One Year Later, Mass Pike, Red Letter Day, Anne Arbour, and Forgive and Forget all have the same distinct sound, but each has its own clearness and tone. This band also covered the Pixies' song "Alec Eiffel," which is one of the fastest non-techno songs I have heard. I'm basically saying this is one helluva good band.
